Top tips for downsizing

Many people are opting to downsize or rightsize in their retirement, or even before,  which can help simplify their lives and save money. While it’s a big decision, downsizing with Gleeson can be a great way to make your life easier – and it doesn’t have to be difficult. Here are some top tips to help make this transition a lot more smooth and stress-free.

Downsizing your home means downsizing your belongings. This might be stating the obvious, but downsizing your home is the perfect opportunity to cleanse of all your belongings that you no longer need, as your new home might not have the space to house it all!

When looking to downsize with Gleeson make sure you visit a number of our developments to find the one which best suits you, and is close to your family, friends and favourite social spots. Take some time to get to know the area, and make sure you check out local amenities. Our Sales Executives can usually help you with this information.

Moving home can be a daunting process, especially if the space you are moving into is smaller that what you are used to, but remind yourself of the benefits of the move. Your home is probably the biggest asset you have, so by downsizing you are giving yourself that extra lump of money to enjoy now. Also, with a smaller space comes less maintenance and cleaning. Remember these reasons when you need that extra bit of motivation to get things done through the buying process.

After you have chosen your new Gleeson home, make sure to make note of the floor plan, this way you can start to visualise the space before you set foot inside like planning where you are going to place your furniture! If you’d like us to help you walk though the floor plans, just ask. We’re happy to help.

A smaller house often lacks certain areas you may have become used to having – and taken for granted. Therefore, start to think about how you can utilise the space in your new Gleeson home, consider buying an ottoman bed with storage underneath, or a pouffe for the living room to store all your spare blankets and games.
