For first-time buyers Chelsea and Leah, finding a home was about much more than simply getting onto the property ladder. It was about creating a place to call their own, somewhere they could make memories and begin the next chapter of their lives together. After reserving their dream home at our Harker Place development in Carlisle in June 2026, the couple haven't looked back.

The idea of owning a home together was something Chelsea and Leah had discussed not long after meeting in early 2024. While Chelsea had been renting for several years, they both recognised that continuing to rent could make it more difficult to save for a deposit and take the next step towards homeownership.

Ready to start a new chapter, they began exploring their options and soon discovered that buying a home with Gleeson was within reach. "We really wanted somewhere that was ours and a place we could truly call home." To help with their savings, Chelsea and Leah moved in with Leah's mum while they worked towards their deposit goal. It proved to be a worthwhile decision and, before long, they were ready to start the homebuying process.

Their connection with Gleeson had actually started several months earlier when they accompanied Leah's mum to view a selection of homes. Chelsea said: "At the beginning of 2025, we went to view some Gleeson homes with Leah's mam. She'd always spoken highly of them after seeing colleagues buy with Gleeson, so we were excited to take a look. As soon as we stepped inside, we could picture our future there. We couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards, and before long we got in touch with the team at Harker Place to register our interest."

Although the couple initially had their sights set on a different house type, everything changed when they stepped inside the Limerick. Chelsea said: "We never thought we'd choose the Limerick because we wanted to avoid having the stairs directly in the living room. But as soon as we saw it in person, our minds completely changed. We'd always wanted a spacious kitchen, and the Limerick offered exactly that."

With its generous layout and open, practical living spaces, the Limerick quickly stood out as the perfect fit. The spacious kitchen gave the couple the room they wanted to enjoy everyday life, while the flexible layout offered plenty of space to grow.

Affordability also played a key role in their decision to buy a Gleeson home. Before stepping onto the property ladder, Chelsea had been renting a two-bedroom semi-detached property. However, when her landlord mentioned increasing the rent to £900 per month, the couple began to question whether continuing to rent made financial sense.

Leah explained: "Chelsea was renting a two-bedroom home, and when her landlord spoke about increasing the rent to £900 a month, it made us stop and think. While it was manageable, we realised it made far more sense to put our money towards buying a home rather than continuing to rent." That realisation strengthened their determination, and before long they were taking the next steps towards securing their new home at Harker Place.

Today, Chelsea and Leah own their three-bedroom Gleeson home, purchased for £236,000, with monthly mortgage repayments of around £1,200. Along with the security of owning their own home, they now enjoy far more space than they did before. Chelsea said: "My rental home was a lovely two-bedroom semi-detached house, but compared to our home now, we have so much more space. We absolutely love having the extra room."

Like many first-time buyers, the couple expected the buying process to be daunting. Instead, they found their journey to homeownership surprisingly simple and stress-free. "Everything went really smoothly. The whole process moved so quickly and, before we knew it, we had the keys and were moving into our new home."

Eager to make the property their own, Chelsea and Leah chose a number of upgrades, including an upgraded kitchen, additional sockets for wall-mounted televisions and outdoor electrical points.

One of the biggest benefits they've discovered since moving in is the efficiency of their new home. Equipped with an Air Source Heat Pump, the property helps to keep energy usage and household running costs manageable. "We hardly have to do anything with it as it's all so self-sufficient. We're really happy with how efficient the house is and with our monthly energy bills."

The couple have also settled quickly into life at Harker Place and enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of the development. "We love it here. It's friendly, quiet and exactly what we were looking for."

For Chelsea and Leah, their Gleeson home represents far more than bricks and mortar. It has become the setting for some of life's most important moments. Earlier in 2026, the couple got engaged during a trip to New York and are now counting down to their wedding in October, which also falls on Chelsea's 30th birthday.

"Life just keeps getting better for us. Buying our home was one of the highlights of an incredible year. We got engaged in New York earlier this year and now we're counting down to our wedding in October, which also happens to be on Chelsea's 30th birthday. We've already made so many special memories here, and there are plenty more still to come."

When asked what mattered most when choosing their first home, the couple said location, affordability and the ability to put down roots were top priorities. "We loved the location, but we also wanted a home that was affordable for both of us. Most importantly, we wanted somewhere we could see ourselves putting down roots."

And their advice for anyone considering taking the leap into homeownership is simple: "If you're thinking about it, just go for it. You won't regret it. We would definitely consider buying another Gleeson home in the future."
