Sam Rushworth MP visits Gleeson Homes Bracks Farm development in Bishop Aukland

Gleeson Homes hosts Sam Rushworth MP at its Bracks Farm development in Bishop Aukland

Gleeson Homes was pleased to host Sam Rushworth MP at its Bracks Farm development in Bishop Auckland on Friday 14 February 2025 to discuss the importance of quality, affordable housing and how this can transform communities.

During his visit, Mr Rushworth toured Gleeson’s show homes, including the 3-bed Brandon, the 3-bed Lisburn, the 3-bed Tyrone, and the 4-bed Waterford. He was also taken on a tour around the site to see the homes being built.

Mr Rushworth and the team discussed at length the importance of making homeownership more accessible, particularly for first-time buyers. The discussion also focused on the urgent need to reform the planning system, particularly that unnecessary delays and frequent appeals in the current process drive up housing costs and hinder new projects. The shortage of skilled tradespeople was also a key point of interest, particularly as Sam was previously a landscape gardener.

Bishop Auckland is an important area for Gleeson, with its previous Greenfield Park development, once a purely industrial area, now a sold-out and a thriving community.

“I was truly impressed by the vision and commitment on display at Gleeson Homes. It’s heartening to see practical solutions in action - from making housing affordable to supporting local trades and revitalising communities. We discussed a number of key issues facing the sector and holding back the supply of new build homes, including planning, skilled labour and first-time buyer support, and it was useful to hear a developer’s perspective on these and how we can work together. I look forward to supporting these initiatives and even returning to try my hand at a bit of bricklaying myself!”

Sam Rushworth MP, Labour MP for Bishop Auckland

“It was a pleasure to welcome Mr Rushworth to our development, Bracks Farm, in his constituency. The visit allowed us to discuss the work that we are doing to provide quality homes at affordable prices in Bishop Auckland for first-time buyers, second-steppers and downsizers. We were especially impressed with the emphasis Mr Rushworth placed on the importance of making home ownership more accessible and look forward to welcoming him back soon!”
