Gleeson supports coastal safety education across its communities
Gleeson Homes is helping young people develop life-saving coastal safety knowledge through its sponsorship of the Sea Sense education programme, delivered by the Tide School Foundation across coastal communities in Northern England.
Through its community engagement strategy, Gleeson has funded a series of Sea Sense workshops in schools across Whitehaven, Hornsea and Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, with a further session planned in Thornton-Cleveleys later this year. The initiative supports communities close to several Gleeson developments while helping to educate children and young people about staying safe around the coast.
Designed for young people aged between eight and 18, the Sea Sense programme helps children better understand the sea and its changing conditions through engaging and interactive workshops. Participants learn about the five key elements that shape coastal environments: tides, streams, wind, waves and rip currents, giving them the knowledge and confidence to recognise potential dangers before they become emergencies.
The workshops have been delivered during the summer period when many families are spending more time by the coast, helping to ensure local children have the awareness and understanding needed to enjoy beaches and coastal areas safely.

Sea Sense workshops are provided free of charge to schools through sponsorship from organisations committed to delivering positive community impact. Alongside the in-school sessions, pupils and their families receive educational resources to reinforce learning at home.
