Gleeson attends HBF Building Skills Parliamentary Event

On Tuesday 12th March 2024, the Home Builders Federation (HBF) held a parliamentary reception to highlight the diverse range of training opportunities and entry routes available in the home building industry.

The event, themed Building Skills: Keys to our future, was attended by MPs and Lords from across the political spectrum, who were able to meet apprentices, trainees and graduates in the industry as well as representatives from a range of house builders.

The event demonstrated the variety of roles available in the house building industry, from traditional site-based jobs, through to finance, design, planning, sales and apprenticeships. Gleeson remains committed to help bridge the industry skills shortage gap and is supporting this through its dedicated apprenticeship scheme, with currently 67 apprentices enrolled across all functions of the business.

Sam Knight, HR Director at Gleeson, was presented with the opportunity to talk at the event. In her talk, Sam discussed the importance of making a career within the construction industry accessible to everybody as well as the need for more funding and support to attract skilled workers and early talent to the industry.

“The event provided an opportunity to showcase the fantastic work that has been done to attract, recruit and retain the future of the workforce, whilst also encouraging important discussions around the skills shortage and the need to better promote the role of house builders in developing skills and employment opportunities. I would like to thank the HBF for organising the event and inviting Gleeson to be part of these incredibly important discussions.”
