Lincolnshire is rich in history and heritage with many sites to explore. Lincoln Castle, built by William the Conqueror almost 1,000 years ago, is home to one of only four surviving copies of the Magna Carta and features a medieval wall walk and Victorian prison. You can also stroll along Steep Hill, a historic cobbled street of Lincoln city that links its old and modern quarters, lined with unique shops, cafés, and galleries that reflect the county’s charm 

Beyond the city, Lincolnshire has plenty more to offer. Doddington Hall, a family-owned Elizabethan manor house, offers landscaped gardens, a farm shop, tearoom and seasonal activities during Christmas. You can also hop on the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway for a steam train journey through the landscape. 

Closer to Lincoln, Hartsholme Country Park and Whisby Nature Park are popular spots for lakeside walks and birdwatching, with well-marked trails and play areas for children. For something different, visitors can try llama trekking near Louth, or enjoy a day out at attractions like Woodside Wildlife Park and Ark Wildlife Park, both of which are family favourites. 

And with over 50 miles of coastline, there’s no shortage of seaside escapes. Skegness is famous for its sandy beaches, traditional pier and family amusements, while Sutton-on-Sea and Mablethorpe offer quieter stretches of coastline that are perfect for long walks and paddling in the sea.  

Yes, Lincolnshire is a fantastic place to raise a family. The county is one of the few areas in England to retain a grammar school system, with a range of selective schools that are highly regarded. For older students, the University of Lincoln has quickly built a strong reputation and plays a big role in the city’s lively atmosphere.

Families can enjoy days out at farms such as Rand Farm Park near Market Rasen or Tattershall Farm Park, both with animals, play areas and seasonal events to get stuck into. Sundown Adventureland, designed especially for children under ten, is another much-loved attraction in the county.

Living in a new home in Lincolnshire means having excellent travel options on your doorstep. The A1, A15 and A16 run through the county, while the M180 gives access to Doncaster, Sheffield and beyond. For those travelling further afield, East Midlands Airport and Humberside Airport are both within reach, offering flights across the UK and Europe.

Lincoln, Newark, and Grantham are the nearest mainline railway stations, offering direct train services to London and major northern cities like York, Leeds and Sheffield, making both commuting and day trips straightforward.
