Gleeson’s Tyne and Wear region move to larger premises to support growth aspirations
Gleeson Homes’ Tyne and Wear office has moved to new larger premises in Gateshead.
Located on Delta Bank Road, on the Metro Riverside Park, the requirement for an office move comes after a period of substantial growth for the Tyne and Wear region, with an increase in employee head count and number of homes built, seeing Gleeson almost double its office space.
Opting for an office which is 4,286 square foot, the Tyne and Wear region is one of Gleeson’s largest, with ten developments currently live, and five coming soon. The region has seen an average output of 300 homes per year, with this number growing substantially, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.
Gleeson’s growth plans include expansion into other North Eastern areas such as, Consett, Ferryhill, Coxhoe, South Hetton and Bearpark, with discussions with landowners and authorities currently taking place. In time, the Tyne and Wear region is expected to support the delivery of around 600 homes per year.
With a total of 27 office employees dedicated to Gleeson’s Tyne and Wear region, employee head count has doubled in the last 24 months. Five new apprentices have been hired in the last four months, three based in the regional office and two out on the region’s developments.
Across the business, Gleeson is committed to supporting the communities in which it builds, by employing individuals who live within the local area. In Tyne and Wear 127 sub-contractor personnel currently working on live developments are all local.
Gleeson specialises in building affordable, quality homes for young first time buyers, with its prices starting from just £106,995 for a two bedroom home in County Durham. Gleeson delivers a unique social benefit by helping people escape from housing poverty caused by the "rent trap" and into home ownership and wealth creation. Gleeson’s homes are affordable enough to be sold to a working couple on the current National Living Wage and mortgage repayments are almost always less than renting.
Sarah Marsden, North Eastern Divisional Managing Director at Gleeson said: “I am delighted to see our region expand and grow as we settle into our new office. We have several thriving developments for local people in the nearby area and so this is the ideal place for our regional office to be based. We have an incredible, passionate, collaborative and respectful team, who are all working towards our goal of building affordable, quality homes where they are needed for those who need them most.
“Despite the pandemic, our region has prospered, we have been a strong position as two thirds of our customers are key workers, those who keep us safe, fed and healthy. Four out of five of our customers are first time buyers, with the majority under the age of 35, meaning our homes are perfectly placed to help ensure young people have the housing they need and deserve.”
James Thomson, Chief Executive Officer at Gleeson said: “We are looking forward to welcoming employees to our new Tyne and Wear office, working in a flexible, highly efficient environment. Our vision is Building Homes. Changing Lives. and with our new office supporting our growth, we are on course to deliver 2,000 homes per year across our whole business by 2022.”
