Gleeson to build 206 affordable, quality new homes in Skegby, Ashfield

Gleeson Homes has been granted planning permission to build 206 homes off Gilcroft Street in Skegby, Nottinghamshire.

The development, which will be known as St. Andrew’s Heights, encompasses areas of former, now disused, agricultural land, as well as part of the former Skegby Quarry site. Delivered over two phases, the land will be transformed into beautiful, high quality, low cost 2, 3 and 4 bedroom semi-detached and detached homes.

With house prices on the development anticipated to start from just £145,000 for a 2 bedroom home and various purchasing schemes available, such as the Government’s Help to Buy: Equity Loan, Gleeson expect these homes to be highly desirable, especially amongst first time buyers and young families in the area.

Construction at St. Andrew’s Heights will begin this winter, with the development’s first releases due in Spring 2022, and three show homes expected to open in Autumn 2022, with the first residents moving in for Christmas 2022.

As part of its Section 106 agreement, 10% of all homes on the new development will be allocated as affordable housing, with 75% of these to be designated as affordable rent and 25% as shared ownership units, the latter units to be sold via HomeReach’s part-buy, part-rent scheme.

Gleeson will make significant contributions to enrich the local community, including £111,625 towards healthcare provisions, £899,474 towards primary education, £217,000 towards improvements to public open space, a £21,600 transport contribution and £11,672 towards the cost of a new recycling centre. To ensure the development maintains an ecological presence and attracts biodiversity, a large green corridor separating the two phases of the development will be retained and a further area of public open space will be created at the southern section of the site.

Allen Marshall, Operations Director at Gleeson said:

“We are thrilled to be commencing work in Skegby. We are committed to ensuring that the housing market better serves young first-time buyers and families on low to average incomes and with several buying schemes to be made available at St. Andrew’s Heights, home ownership will become a reality for many. We are looking forward to working with the local community and we will be employing a workforce that mainly comprises of local labour, including apprentices, and contractors. Our Section 106 donations will also help fund education, healthcare, transport, and waste disposal provisions within the local area.”

Gleeson has had great success within the Ashfield District, with its development in Sutton-in-Ashfield, named Sutton Heights, proving popular with first time buyers, and both upsizers and downsizers.

Gleeson is seeking local labour and sub-contractors to work on St. Andrew’s Heights and Sutton Heights, including applications from local young people who are interested in joining the Gleeson apprenticeship scheme.
