Gleeson achieves planning permission to build 26 new homes in Whitehaven

Gleeson Homes has been granted planning permission to build 26 homes off Main Street in Whitehaven as part of phase one of its new development named Ivy Mills.

The construction of Ivy Mills will see the former 2.4 acre manufacturing facility be transformed into beautiful, high quality, low cost 2, 3 and 4 bedroom semi-detached and detached homes.

With house prices on the development anticipated to start from just £141,995 for a 2 bedroom home and various schemes such as the Government’s Help to Buy: Equity Loan available, Gleeson expect these homes to be highly desirable, especially amongst first time buyers and young families in the area.

Construction at Ivy Mills will begin in February 2022 and will span until June 2023. The development’s show homes will open in February 2023 with the first new homes released for sale around Autumn 2022, and the first residents expected to move into their new home in Spring 2023.

The development is within walking distance of multiple schools and local amenities and is also located close to West Cumberland Hospital making this the perfect development for key workers wanting to buy a new home and take advantage of Gleeson’s Key Worker Priority Programme. To say thank you to key workers, Gleeson’s scheme ensures key workers receive a range of benefits  to make moving into their dream home even easier.

Kirk Thompson, Operations Director at Gleeson said:

“We are delighted to be bringing 26 fantastic new homes to Whitehaven as part of phase one Ivy Mill. Whitehaven is in an area that is new to Gleeson, and we are looking forward to championing the community with our affordable homes, engaging with local schools and sports teams and employing a workforce on site that will be made up of local labour and contractors. With our homes, we are determined to ensure that the housing market better serves young first-time buyers and families on low to average incomes.”

Gleeson has several developments in Cumbria, including Carlisle, Workington, Maryport, Egremont and Barrow In Furness, and sees an output of 600+ homes built per year in the region.

Gleeson is seeking local labour and sub-contractors to work on this exciting new development, including applications from local young people who are interested in joining the Gleeson apprenticeship scheme.
