Gleeson demonstrates its support for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) flag campaign

From 25th September, Gleeson Homes is joining hundreds of businesses, government departments, civil society organisations, and schools in a global sustainability movement.

Gleeson will be flying Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) flags at a select number of its sales centres to spread awareness of the core aims of the SDGs and mobilise stakeholders for the 2030 agenda. The flags will be displayed for a minimum of two weeks across five of Gleeson’s operating regions.

The SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, reflect a shared objective and ambition across all countries to end poverty and hunger everywhere, to combat inequalities within and among countries, build peaceful and inclusive societies, protect human rights, and promote gender equality for women and girls, and to ensure lasting protection of the planet and its natural resources by 2030.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a globally recognised pathway to a more sustainable future, but only 16% of SDG targets are currently on track to be achieved by 2030. The remaining 84% show limited or a reversal of progress. Therefore, the need for action on the Goals is greater than ever.

“The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) form part of our sustainability strategy here at Gleeson. As a business, we are committed to many of the key focuses of the SDGs; namely gender equality, decent work and economic growth, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action and life on land. These SDGs are material to our business operations, and we are focused on being able to make a positive impact in progressing them. With only 1 in 10 people in Britain familiar with the SDGs, we hope that flying these flags will help to raise awareness of the SDG aims and encourage our colleagues, subcontractors, customers, and local communities to get involved and take action to meet the 2030 agenda.”
