Gleeson Homes raises thousands for Ashgate Hospice
Over its last financial year, housebuilder Gleeson Homes’ Yorkshire and Midlands division has been supporting Ashgate Hospice.
Ashgate Hospice is a charity, located in Chesterfield, that provides free palliative and end-of-life care to people aged 18 and over. They care for people living with a life-limiting illness, including cancer, neurological diseases, and end-stage heart, kidney, and lung diseases.
Over the last 12 months, Gleeson colleagues have raised funds in several ways, including through bake sales, raffles and competitions, plus a group of ten colleagues recently took part in the gruelling Derbyshire Three Peaks challenge. The team walked 21.7 miles in just under 12 hours, raising a significant amount of money in the process.
In total, the division has raised an astounding £8,474.22 in total, which will help Ashgate Hospice significantly.
Bryan Simpson, Divisional Managing Director, presented the charity with the cheque and commented: “I am so proud of what we have achieved for such a fantastic cause. Ashgate Hospice is a charity close to many people’s hearts, and I’m sure they will benefit from the much needed funds we have raised, allowing them to continue with the brilliant work they do to support those who need it the most. At Gleeson we are keen to offer our support wherever we can, giving back to local charities and communities.”
Rachel Broughton, Senior Corporate and Community Fundraiser at Ashgate Hospice said: “We are extremely grateful to Gleeson Homes for choosing Ashgate Hospice as their divisional charity of the year.
"We rely on the support of local people and businesses so that we can continue to provide our vital care for families at our hospice and out in the community. From fundraising in their office to taking on the Three Peaks Challenge earlier this year, Gleeson have been wonderful, and we’d all like to thank them for their incredible efforts in helping us be there for the people who need us most."
Gleeson’s Community Matters programme has been implemented to ensure that the communities in which Gleeson builds also feel the benefit of new developments, with the housebuilder understanding the importance of involving local people before and during the construction of its homes, leaving a legacy once works are complete.
The programme also sees Gleeson donate to and work with local sports teams and community groups, collaborate with schools on a range of initiatives and provide jobs and apprenticeships for local people.
