Gleeson Homes support for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) flag campaign

On 23 September, Gleeson Homes is joining hundreds of businesses, government departments, civil society organisations, and schools in a global movement by flying SDG flags at its Sales Centres to spread awareness of the SDGs and mobilise stakeholders for the 2030 agenda. The flags will be displayed until 3 October 2022.

This September marks seven years since the world embraced the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, reflect a shared objective and ambition across all countries to end poverty and hunger everywhere, to combat inequalities within and among countries, build peaceful and inclusive societies, protect human rights, and promote gender equality for women and girls, and to ensure lasting protection of the planet and its natural resources by 2030.

Matt Gibb, Group Sustainability Manager for Gleeson Homes says:

“Sustainability is at the heart of all we do here at Gleeson and the majority of our developments being built on brownfield sites, transforming and repurposing the land whilst providing affordable and energy-efficient housing for those who need them the most in the local communities.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are incorporated into the Gleeson Sustainability Strategy and we focus our efforts on six of the SDGs; gender equality, decent work and economic growth, sustainable cities and communities,  responsible consumption and production, climate action, and life on land. These SDGs are most relevant to our business operations and where we can make a positive impact to progress them.

We are proud to take part in the UN Global Compact’s SDG flag campaign this year and will be flying our SDG flags high until 3 October to continue promoting, and raising awareness of the role that SDGs play in achieving sustainable development”

With only 1 in 10 people in Britain familiar with the SDGs, we hope by flying the SDG flags to raise awareness of the SDGs and encourage Gleeson colleagues, subcontractors, customers, and our local communities to get involved and take action to meet the 2030 agenda.
