Gleeson Homes granted planning permission to bring 199 low-cost, quality new homes to Withernsea

Gleeson Homes has been granted planning permission to build 199 homes ranging from 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes off Hollym Road in Withernsea.

The new development, which will be called Sands Reach, is located in the heart of the seaside town, renowned for its tourism, lifeboats and lighthouse. The development will see Gleeson transform the 16.88 acre plot of disused land into quality, affordable homes, bringing much needed new housing to the region.

With house prices on the development anticipated to start from under £140,000, Gleeson expects these homes to be attractive to first-time buyers, growing families and downsizers who are local to the area. All homes on the development will include an air source heat pump and electric vehicle charging points as standard, in line with the new building regulations and to improve the efficiency and sustainability of housing.

Construction at Sands Reach is expected to start in the Spring of 2023, with the first homes released for sale in Autumn 2023. The development’s show homes are expected to launch in October 2023, with the first residents expected to move into their new homes in the Winter of 2023.

Gleeson is committed to supporting the local communities where it operates, and is delighted to provide £40,000 towards an off-site open space contribution in addition to over 200 jobs in the direct industry and wider community. It is expected that the development will allow over 160 people or couples to buy a home instead of renting or living with their parents.

Gleeson will also work with the local community as part of its Community Matter Programme, which sees the housebuilder collaborate with local schools, sports teams, charities, and businesses in the areas in which it builds

Wayne Sutton, Gleeson’s Regional Managing Director for the Yorkshire East Region, commented: “We are delighted to be bringing affordable, quality homes to Withernsea. We are dedicated to ensuring that the housing market better serves young and first-time buyers as well as families on low to average incomes, making homeownership a reality. We believe this development will enhance our presence in the area and demonstrate our commitment to Withernsea and the East Riding of Yorkshire.”

Gleeson is seeking local labour and sub-contractors to work on this exciting new development, including applications from local young people who are interested in joining the Gleeson apprenticeship scheme.
