James Thomson, our Chief Executive Officer comments on the Autumn Budget 2021
Our Chief Executive Officer James Thomson comments on Rishi Sunak's Budget and Comprehensive Spending Review.
“Building low-cost homes must be a priority as a means to levelling up and transforming lives and communities. To deliver this we must unblock the planning process and we would urge government to use some of the new £4.8bn announced today for grant funding to be put towards planning departments within local authorities.
“While we welcome further investment in brownfield sites, it is vital that this support is targeted at deprived areas in need of regeneration. At Gleeson we are proud of our record of building high quality, low cost homes, in areas where people need them most. A young couple on the national living wage can buy a home on any of our developments, but this is an area of the market poorly served by the current system, so we would encourage the Government to provide further support for this area.”
On levelling up funding: “We welcome the first wave of investment through the levelling up funds, including for areas across the North and Midlands where Gleeson operates. Regenerating areas will help to better connect these regions, driving economic growth and living standards.”
