Interior trends for 2024

As 2023 draws to a close, now is the perfect time to take a closer look at interior and style trends that are expected to be popular in 2024. To help give you some home inspiration, we’ve pulled together a simple guide with some of our favourite trends to help you prepare for the new year and season in your home. Plus, if you’re considering buying a new home or making your next move with Gleeson, this blog is packed with ideas to help you style your new home.

1. 2024 colour of the year

Pantone has just announced Peach Fuzz as the 2024 colour of the year. This elegant and warming pastel tone could be the perfect colour to add those statement touches to different rooms within your home. For example, you might choose to add a difference through subtle changes including cushion covers, small canvas prints, and decorative items such as vases, bedding, and even candles.

If neutrals are your preference, you’ll also be pleased to hear that Dulux have selected Sweet Embrace™ as their chosen Colour of the Year 2024. This colour follows the more neutral and calming palette which continues to remain popular with many.

Warm, calming neutrals are here to stay in 2024. This type of colour palette is a popular paint choice for bedroom and living areas, offering a soothing sanctuary to relax in.

2. Statement pieces

If you’re a minimalist but still looking to add a touch of ‘wow’ to a room, you could consider adding a statement piece. Large decorative statements are becoming more and more popular. This could be something as simple as a large mirror or decorative canvas painting on the wall. For other rooms such as the kitchen, you might choose to add a stand-out pendant light hanging above your dining table or a large indoor plant. One large piece of statement décor can really add character to a room, and you don’t need to spend as much as you might think to make it stand out.

3. Second-hand treasures

Sustainability is no longer a new trend; it has very much become a way of life, especially when it comes to designing and furnishing a home.

An example of this is bringing in the old with the new. Buying second-hand is becoming more and more common, with people seeking ways to shop sustainably. Buying vintage and antique furniture is also a fantastic way to add personality and charm to your beautiful new blank canvas. Plus, with a wave of online stores, apps and marketplaces making an appearance, it’s now even easier to find those stunning antique treasures for your home.

And if it’s a sustainable home you’re after, look no further than Gleeson. All of our homes are built with the latest energy efficient materials making them a highly sustainable option. We’re proud to say that 95%* of our homes achieved an EPC rating of B or above, meaning a new home is the sensible choice if you're looking for low maintenance, energy efficient living.

4. Decorative panelling

Panelling has been a consistent trend for quite some years now and this type of wall decoration continues to be popular in many homes across the UK.

With Scandinavian and earthy influence still being a big trend for home interiors, it’s expected that fluted natural wood wall style panelling will be a go-to trend for 2024. Taking inspiration from the sixties and seventies, this type of panelling offers a standout and affordable way to add warmth to a plain room, while also maintaining those stunning, minimalistic scandi vibes.

Panelling is easy to implement yourself, with many homebuyers getting creative with their DIY skills, to self-decorate their homes with panelling. Whether you choose to panel your beautiful staircase and hallway, living area or kitchen, you’ll enjoy getting creative on a home project that you can enjoy all year round. 5. Scandinavian styling

Speaking of Scandinavian influence, we’re pleased to see that this trend is here to stay. With its minimalistic aesthetic and clean style, there’s no surprise why this timeless trend remains so relevant.

The simplicity of this style uses natural materials, organic shapes and a soft palette to bring calm to contemporary, open plan living. Expect to see more natural wood furniture, jute and wicker style baskets, natural woven rugs, and textiles like cotton and linen. Many retailers such as John Lewis, Next and Dunelm now even include the option to filter by Scandi inspired furniture and décor to make shopping for your new home that bit easier.
