Karolina and Laurynas’ homeownership story
Ready to escape the rent trap and have somewhere to call their own, Karolina, 27 and Laurynas, 28 known as @ourcarlow on Instagram fell in love with a 4 bedroom detached Carlow at one of our Nottinghamshire developments.
After visiting a couple of other new build developers in their area, Gleeson came out on top for the couple due to how affordable it was to buy their dream family home and the value for money.
Since moving in the couple couldn’t be happier and are looking forward to growing their family in their new home, we spoke to Karolina about how buying a Gleeson home of great value has changed their life.

When did you reserve your home? May 2022.
When did you move in? September 2022.
Which house type did you buy? The 4 bedroom detached Carlow.
Is this your first house purchase? Yes, this is our first home! We previously rented a small one bedroom flat for £450 per month which had a tiny garden and limited space inside for us to grow as a family. Despite our mortgage now being more expensive at £700 per month, we now have a gorgeous 4 bedroom detached home with a huge garden, plus a garage and drive. It feels huge in comparison and we definitely see the value in paying slightly more each month for something we can now call our own!
Why a Gleeson home? Gleeson was at the top of our list due to how affordable the homes are. We viewed a number of other new build developers, but what we could get for the price Gleeson was offering, no others could compare! We also didn’t want to move too far away from the area we were currently living, with our chosen development ticking all those boxes, it was a no brainer.
Why a new home? At first we didn’t want to buy a new build home, we were concerned that there would be a lack of space inside and limited parking, however after talking with a friend who recently bought a new build, they convinced us to look into it further! After viewing the gorgeous Gleeson show homes our minds were pleasantly changed and we knew a new build home was for us! Every Gleeson home has a driveway, which was crucial for us as we wanted somewhere safe to park our car.
We also love that everything inside our home is brand new, meaning we don’t have to worry about anything breaking or needing replacing any time soon thanks to the Gleeson two year warranty and the NHBC Buildmark Warranty! We viewed a lot of older properties, but they all needed a lot of work doing to them which put us off.
We also love that when we moved in our home it was a blank canvas, ready for us to put our own personal touch on the rooms. We have gone for neural tones throughout with a splash of colour! We didn’t have to worry about painting over someone else style, or ripping up any old carpets – being able to choose our own style from Gleeson’s optional extras range was so much fun too.
What do you love the most about the exterior of your home? We love the colours of the red brick contrasting with the black roof. Also, the fact that our driveway can fit two cars is a dream! A lot of other new build developers we viewed didn’t offer this kind of home and finish which was a huge selling point for us.
How was the process of buying your new home for you? The process of buying our home was one to remember! Our home was extremely popular and had a lot of interest with other buyers, when we initially saw the Carlow and called up to enquire, we were told the home was already reserved by somebody else, however this didn’t stop us from giving up. We kept an eye on the website for other homes to become available, and when we saw the original house come back up on the website we called the sales team to put a deposit down, however we was told it had already been reserved again! A few hours later our luck changed and the amazing Sales Executive called us to let us know our home had come back on the market, so we put a deposit down straight away and secured our dream home.
From that moment, to collecting our keys everything went so smoothly. Our Sales Executive was great and informed us through every step of the build stages and we had a lot of help from Meridian Mortgages and our solicitors too. As first-time buyers we felt that Gleeson really looked after us, and made the whole process less daunting and as easy as can be!
Are you enjoying life on your development? We love our development. It is quiet and peaceful and the neighbours we have met so far seem very nice and friendly!
Do you have any tips for anyone looking to move into a Gleeson home? We would recommend anyone buying a home with Gleeson to use their recommended mortgage providers, Meridian Mortgages – they are extremely helpful and found us some great deals.
We would also say enjoy the process much as you can, look at everything with a positive mind and give everyone a chance. We are so happy that we went ahead and bought a new build home and we feel confident we spent our money on the right house for us. We now finally have space to expand our family, thanks to Gleeson.
