How to get your home Christmas ready!

Buying Christmas presents for your loved ones or what to rustle up for the perfect Christmas meal might be at the top of your list, but don’t let your home décor take a backseat.

After all, spending time with your family and friends in your cosy home is what the festive season is all about! Here’s some ideas to help you  transform your home into a winter wonderland in no time.

Exterior décor

It’s that magical time of the year where you can’t help but smile as you walk through your Gleeson neighbourhood and admire the outdoor Christmas displays, so making your home’s exterior as festive as the inside is a must!

Be Santa’s first stop with a traditional Christmas wreath on your front door, try accompanying it with matching ribbons on your potted plants too. A wreath is not only an eye-catching embellishment but also every time you arrive home your wreath will give you that festive feeling. Choose from wreaths decorated with pinecones, and berries or perhaps go for a modern twist with bows and feathers. For a nice Christmas activity, why not try making your own wreath? It certainly will impress the delivery drivers dropping off your Christmas gifts. Easy to make and stunning to look at, all you need is a wire frame, leaves, greenery and festive decorations of your choice, a hot glue gun, ribbon or brown twine and some sharp cutters (scissors or wire cutters).

If you want to go beyond a wreath, why not populate your front garden with some light-up ornaments? We’re talking a light up reindeer or light-up presents which will look stunning twinkling in the evening! Finally, don’t forget to hang outdoor icicle Christmas lights from your roof to finish off the look!

Living room

In the living room, the show stopper is of course the Christmas tree, but why not add a magical touch with stings of fairy lights across the windowsill or over the coffee table, creating a dreamy, festive vibe.

Swap your cushion covers with some Christmas themed ones and don’t forget to fill any empty shelves with some festive scented candles, who doesn’t love the smell of ‘winter spice’ or Yankee Candles famous ‘Christmas Eve’ scent?!

Kitchen-Diner

Your dining table will have all eyes on it when serving up your Christmas meal so it deserves some attention to detail. A Christmas centrepiece is a must, so why not place your advent candle in the middle for the final burn and surround it with holly or even left over baubles as well as your best dinner plates.

Finish with the must-have and be it, the most important table decorations, Christmas crackers! And there you have it, the perfect dining room setting for the perfect Christmas feast.

Bedroom

Getting out of bed in the December mornings can be a real task, but with the right bedroom décor we promise to make mornings a little extra cheery!

Head down to B&M or Home Bargains to purchase a festive bedding set and accompany it with a bright chunky throw and matching Christmas cushions. Drape some fairy lights over your bed's headboard or across your desk to instantly create a Christmas feel to the room too!

Hallway/stairs

Deck your halls with festive cheer and add a splash of Christmas into your staircase by dressing the banister with a jolly garland, fairy lights or tinsel. If you’ve opted for our Kilkenny house type in particular this will look amazing! You could even attach some baubles to some string or some decorative stocking and hang them for a merrier look!

So what are you waiting for?! Dust off those decorations and add some festive magic into your home, ready to welcome your friends and family and, of course, maybe even Santa Claus!
