How to help build a community on your development

Whether you’re moving into a new Gleeson home or you’re an existing homeowner, being the best neighbour you can be will certainly make homeownership even more enjoyable, and who doesn’t want that!

Joining a new community can seem daunting but at Gleeson, not only do we build affordable, quality homes, but we create communities that you’ll love to be a part of. As soon as you visit one of our beautiful developments, you’ll notice the sense of community our homeowners have built up, homeowners on our developments have been known to host events and gatherings!

So, if you’re keen to grow the community on your development, or are moving in soon and want to be a fantastic neighbour, here’s a couple of simple ways to help you get started!

Look at creating a WhatsApp group for your road or wider development! This creates a space where you can ask each other for advice or tips or even share delicious recipes. Many of our developments have a resident WhatsApp group or Facebook group, which are free to join, and will help you instantly feel part of the community.

Many of our developments are close to parks or wooded areas, so why not suggest to fellow dog owners to go on walks together?! You can always count on our fury friends to bring the community together.

Don’t have a dog? Then you could start a club to get out and about and mingle with fellow residents on your development! Not only is sharing interests and creating a club a great way to bring your Gleeson community together, but it’s a great way to make friends and discover new hobbies too. So, dust off your walking shoes and start a walking group, or push yourself out of your comfort zone by starting a cycling club to keep fit and healthy.

Why not head down to your local shop and stock up on party snacks to be the ‘hostess with the mostess’ and organise a gathering for your street!? Team up with neighbours to all bring a dish or food item and have a get-together on your green space, or in your homes as the weather gets cooler. Christmas is slowly creeping up on us, which is a perfect excuse to put on a festive celebration this December.

Do you ever feel like you spend all your life trying to clean and organise your home and never actually cross any items off your to-do list?! Why not share any useful DIY hacks that have helped you spruce up your home with your neighbours? You never know, your neighbour might share that golden cleaning hack that you can't live without. It’s likely that on your development, there will be homeowners with all sorts of skills, so if you’re thinking of panelling a wall and need some help, reach out to your neighbours, you never know who will be an expert!

As well as on our developments, there is a huge Gleeson community online, especially on Instagram. If you have created a home account to mark your journey, why not connect with other Gleeson social accounts for some interior inspo and to support others too! On Instagram you’ll also find our 10 Gleeson brand ambassadors, who are on hand to help with any home buying questions you have. Head over to our Instagram page to view our ambassador highlight!

Performing little acts of kindness can go a long way too. Treat your neighbours how you would like to be treated, and it’ll instantly create a feeling of unity in your community. Some examples include, shovelling snow from their driveways this winter and baking treats to share, even just a simple smile will help build a friendlier community!

Whether you’re a first time buyer or existing homeowner, we're here to help you every step of the way, helping you become part of one of our amazing communities. Find your dream home here

Most importantly enjoy!
